Maine Mental Health Connections offers a variety
of social, recreational, residential, vocational, and personal growth
opportunities for adult consumers of mental health and/or mental retardation
services. Our goal is to maintain and/or increase the community integration of
individuals and reduce their dependency on the mental health
system.
The mission of Maine Mental Health Connections is
based on the philosophy that mental health and/or mental retardation consumers
have the right to choice in determining their independence in the community, and
opportunities should be provided for them to have and make choices that will
lead to their individualized and group
empowerment.
Since we
started in 1981, we have promoted the role of mental health and mental
retardation consumers in the design and operation of our programs. Over 50%
of our Board of Directors are consumers of services. The Board of Directors
seeks individuals to take an active role in the agency. Individuals who may be
interested in sitting on the Board of Directors are asked to contact the
Administrative office at 941-2907.
Maine Mental Health Connections is licensed by the Maine Department
of Health & Human Services (DHHS), and receives funding from Maine
DHHS, Maine Department of Labor-Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, the United
Way of Eastern Maine, and community donations.
